Park View School Birmingham

Park View School in Birmingham’s Alum Rock, an area associated with high social disadvantage and gang problems, has had an uphill struggle to provide excellence for its students. In the late 1990s, only 4% of students were awarded five or more A-C grades at GCSE, now, with a clampdown on bullying and a ‘no student left behind’ agenda, the school has almost three-quarters of its students achieving at this high level.

HMP Buckley Hall

In 2000 HMP Buckley Hall came into public sector management under a new service level agreement. In 2003 the prison re-roled and became a female prison and then, due to the rising number of male prisoners in the estate and the decrease in female prisoners, it re-roled back to a Male Category C training Prison in 2005. From 2009 to 2011 HMP Buckley hall underwent another tendering process and in March 2011 the contract was again awarded to the Public Sector Prisons. It operates still as a male Category C Training Prison.

Canary Wharf Financial Institution

The London office of a leading, blue chip, US based, financial institution, has extended its multi-faith facilities in two Canary Wharf buildings, to include the latest in ablution appliances for Muslims. The two buildings are managed by Norland Managed Services, a leading provider of managed building services in the UK. Norland’s Property Manager, Russell Turley, was becoming increasingly concerned about the health and safety implications of the amount of water being spilt in the washrooms servicing two of its client’s trading floors. He remembered from a recent publication, ‘Diversity Matters’, A Guide to Best Practice Faith Room Design, that some of the issues identified in the guide, could well have been the cause for the high level of water spillage.
